Fifteen years of events leave you holding a network. HAYAT is what happens when you stop treating that network as a contact list and start treating it as a place — the membership arm the Banaye Bartar group opened as it entered its second decade.
What it is, on any given day, is a social club for the building industry, and it runs like one. A working breakfast in the courtyard at eight. A supplier presenting a new product at eleven. A private meeting in the room off the garden. A group session in the afternoon, a brand launch at the weekend, a film being shot against the far wall while all of it goes on. Hospitality, media, seminars, conversations, product launches, private events, the ordinary business of an industry talking to itself — held in one garden, under the same trees, with the same people passing each other on the way in.
Five services hold it together. Events run the specialised and private rooms: seminars, workshops, conferences, banquets, product and brand launches. Trips take members to the world's leading trade fairs, to notable building projects, and down the production lines behind the materials they specify. The club does the admitting — professionals accepted for standing in their own trade, across trades. Media produces the specialised work: ideation, film and photography, distribution through trade networks, radio, podcast and a news magazine. And the café is the room where the meeting after the meeting happens.
Its first year answered a question nobody in the industry had asked out loud. The building trade here had moved almost entirely onto screens — catalogues, price lists, group chats, and lately whatever the software can generate on request — and in the middle of all that acceleration the thing it had quietly stopped having was a room. HAYAT was a room. People came for the coffee and stayed for whoever was at the next table, and the industry took to it faster than anything the group had opened in years. The relationships that started there started the way relationships actually start: in person, without an agenda, over something to eat.
The logic of the whole structure is that a relationship needs somewhere to continue. An event ends; a courtyard does not. It is the argument WINDOW makes about a single room, applied to a year — which is why the two marks travel together on the platform's own title plate.
